Background of the Study
Land tenure is a critical factor in the development of agriculture, especially in rural areas such as Mubi South Local Government in Adamawa State. Land tenure policies govern how land is owned, accessed, and utilized for agricultural purposes. These policies determine the security of land ownership and the ability of farmers to invest in and expand agricultural activities. Over the years, Mubi South has witnessed various changes in land tenure systems, with implications for agricultural production. This study investigates the effects of land tenure policies on the expansion of agriculture in Mubi South, with a focus on land access, security, and the role of traditional and formal systems of land ownership.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Although agriculture is a major economic activity in Mubi South, land tenure issues such as land disputes, unclear land ownership, and limited access to arable land have hindered the expansion of agricultural practices. Despite several land reforms and policies aimed at addressing these issues, farmers continue to face challenges related to land access and ownership security.
